Fun with charts: BC hockey roster movement

facebooktwitterreddit

With word that Philip Samuelsson is leaving the Boston College Eagles hockey program, I think it’s time I bust out a chart.

If this requires any amendments, please let me know as soon as possible.

In terms of actual manpower, BC still hasn’t lost a lot. Six guys leaving is certainly not the end of the world when you have that many names on the other side of the list. (Note the contrast with BC men’s basketball, where as many as nine guys — or 64% of the current roster — may not be returning next year, depending on what Reggie Jackson does. In that sense, the hockey program is in far better shape.)

When it comes to talent, however, there’s no doubt that the Eagles are losing some top players. Chris Kreider, for now, being on the left side of the chart is a major plus for BC, but the New York Rangers are not going to give up their pursuit of him. Brian Dumoulin returning will also be helpful to the cause. Kreider and Dumoulin are two of the best remaining players on the Eagles, and their return is welcomed.

Is the right side of the chart going to grow further before the academic year is out? Our fans hope not, but stay tuned.
