Thanks for everything, Cam Atkinson

Soaring to Glory would like to take this opportunity to wish now-former Boston College hockey star Cam Atkinson for his tremendous three years of contributions to his team and our school. Yesterday, the junior announced that he would leave along with the seniors in order to pursue his professional career.

In these past two years, he has been especially dominant (which explains why he was a legitimate candidate to win the Hobey Baker Award in both). Between his sophomore and junior years, Atkinson netted 61 goals and amassed an impressive 105 points.

Atkinson will finish his degree at another time as he joins the Columbus Blue Jackets organization.

We know that Boston College hockey is not one of those programs that has to worry about hauling in good recruits. The Eagles can replace Atkinson, as well as all of the seniors, but now we know that there will be even more turnover next year than we already figured. Atkinson was part of a special time here at Boston College, where he was part of a national championship team, as well as two Hockey East championships and two Beanpot wins. I don’t think any of us can fault him for wanting to take the next step, however.

He will do BC proud at the next level, and for that we salute him.
