BC sports dates of interest

In a whirlwind of shock and awe last night, the last of Boston College’s big three sports is gone for the 2010-2011 season. (My annual four-part Year in Review articles won’t be coming out until the school year is officially over in May.) The question is, quite frankly, what the hell do we do with ourselves now?

Well, for starters, we have a baseball team that will be playing several times a week from here until the end of May. They don’t have the greatest ballpark atmosphere (because there is none), but they’re a Boston College team and are deserving of support all the same. Expect to see a lot more of them as STG rides out this academic year. In fact, BC’s next game is today, but it’s not at our school because our field wasn’t ready for baseball. These are the perils of playing March baseball in Massachusetts I suppose.

I think most of you, however, have turned your attention to football. Unfortunately for all of you folks, five months is a long time, and we’re going to have to fill it with something. Fortunately there is spring football on the horizon, and if you’re around the Boston College campus, you may have an opportunity to catch practices. The Alumni Stadium bubble is currently down (according to the schedule BC provides), but starting on March 29, there will be a total of nine practices until the Jay McGillis Spring Game on April 16. In past years, I had noticed that the spring game and the NFL Draft overlap, but this year, fans who hope to make it to Alumni will not have such a problem. The draft is scheduled for a full two weeks later. Anthony Castonzo will likely be drafted on April 28, while the others will have to wait until either the 29th or 30th, if at all.

Aside from that, June through August will be a large, Eagle-less vacuum, aside from the football practices later on in the summer. I had hoped as you all did that hockey would help condense this gap somewhat, but we’ve got a lot of time to kill. I mean, a lot. Mark your calendars for April 16, I suppose (only three weeks from today).
