Happy ACC Tournament Eve
By Joe Micik
A nice, quick article today – what can I say, I’m busy and actually have a life (contrary to public opinion). We were helped out quite a bit last night when Butler defeated Milwaukee, shrinking the Horizon League down to only one bid and giving the Eagles a tiny bit more breathing room from the NIT event horizon. There are some big bubble games today which will directly impact the Boston College Eagles, and your rooting interests for today are as follows (and all are in the Big 12 Tournament):
*Iowa State. There is perhaps no team we have wanted to lose as much yet as Colorado, and it is imperative that they fall at the hands of the Cyclones. They did just that last week, but to do so again would fatally wound their season. The Buffaloes are right on BC’s tail (and Clemson and Virginia Tech’s tails) on the bubble and their exit would be very welcome news. If they don’t, they could continue to make things uncomfortably close, especially considering how Kansas State would be their next draw (the Buffs have already beaten K-State twice this year).
*Oklahoma State. Nebraska, the Cowboys’ opponent, is barely in touch with the bubble, but a loss would knock them all the way off. We could use the space.
*Oklahoma. Baylor is another one of those teams who are basically clinging on by a thread, and winning this game over the pathetic Sooners by itself wouldn’t play them back into the tournament, but we don’t want them going on a hot streak like they have in the past few years in the B12T. A loss here would absolutely seal them in the NIT.
In terms of teams qualifying/not qualifying, these are the only three games that matter. I promise you, there will be more than three tomorrow.
