BC wins Hockey East regular season; now the fun begins

With a 4-3 come-from-behind win in Durham, NH tonight, the Boston College Eagles claimed the 2010-2011 Hockey East regular season title and the #1 seed in the upcoming Hockey East Tournament. It was their 11th Hockey East regular-season title since the conference’s inception, and Jerry York has now presided over five of them.

The Eagles fell behind 2-0 early in the second period, in what looked like a reverse of last night’s 4-0 win, but unlike BC on Friday, UNH let the lead melt away. BC went ahead twice in the third period, finally going ahead for good on a Pat Mullane goal. If I had a box score, or I was able to watch it or even follow a Gametracker, I could tell you more about it. The important thing is that BC won and they continue their stretch of solid hockey.

Congratulations are in order to the Boston College hockey team, but they know (and so do we) that their work has only just begun. Next up will be defending the Hockey East Tournament title and, with any luck, getting a 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament in so doing. The run to the Lamoriello Trophy begins on March 11, against an 8-seed yet to be determined.

Now the real season starts.
