Hockey and baseball weekend
By Joe Micik
People usually want the bad news first in life, so here it is: Boston College baseball is not playing well so far this year. Since notching two solid victories at Tulane, the Eagles have lost 6 of their last 9 games. They are allowing over eight and a half runs per game, and to make matters far worse, they have to play a series at #13 Miami this weekend. I do not see good things for BC in this series: last year when they were playing well, they only managed to salvage the last game at Shea Field. This, I fear, could be a Hurricanes sweep if they’re not careful. We will need someone to step up and get the Eagles at least a win, and that guy is probably Pat Dean. He is easily BC’s best starter and is lined up for this series.
The good news is that BC hockey is starting its journey through the Hockey East Tournament in the quarterfinals against UMass. Unlike what we saw yesterday, you can actually count on this particular BC team for wins in conference play. The Eagles are 3-0 against the Minutemen this year, so I think that winning 2 out of 3 is a definite possibility. All three games (the third only if necessary) will begin at 7pm at Conte Forum. They would be worth attending if you can get your hands on a ticket.
If the Eagles were to win this series, they would advance to next week’s semifinals against the 2nd-lowest remaining seed at the TD Garden.
