The week ahead
By Joe Micik
Men’s basketball
The ACC Tournament is about a week and a half away, but before that, BC has two more games to play in the regular season against Virginia and North Carolina State. The UVA game is on Wednesday night at Conte Forum whereas the NC State game is in Raleigh on Sunday. Despite their flop on Saturday against Georgia Tech, I still say this team has a good chance of finishing 7-9. Kenpom seems to think BC will beat UVA but lose to NC State, but I tend to think BC will win both. Not that it matters very much, because it’s highly likely that they’re in this 8-9 ACCT matchup no matter what. It’s quite probable that BC will see Virginia again on March 11th in the first round, just like last year.
Men’s hockey
Well, this is it for the regular season, and the Hockey East 1-seed will be on the line this weekend during a home-and-home against New Hampshire. BC must win both games or they will be the number 2 seed. More on this throughout the week.
Baseball
The Eagles salvaged a game this weekend in Alabama to put their overall record at 3-3. This week, they will play their annual exhibition against the Red Sox (Wednesday night on NESN) and then open up a three-game weekend series against Florida Atlantic.
Women’s basketball
Women’s basketball will begin their 2010 ACC Tournament as the 7-seed, playing Virginia Tech in the 7-10 game on Thursday evening. They lost a close game to the Hokies in their only previous matchup.
Other Sports
The softball team (5-3) will play a doubleheader against Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday, then will play Providence, Villanova, UCF, and Georgia Southern in that order this weekend. Men’s and women’s skiing will compete in the USCSA National Championship. If you see anyone on campus wearing silver medals, it’s Kelli Stack and Molly Schaus.
