Friday double-dip: Hockey and baseball

…and women’s basketball if you want to make it three major events going on in BC sports tomorrow.

First, hockey, as that is the game that is coming up first (7pm ET).  The men go east into the city to play Northeastern, who are in 6th place in Hockey East but have won four games in a row (and 6 of their last 7).  #9 Boston College has won five out of their last six and last lost to NU on March 6th of last season.

They’ll follow Friday night’s game up with a game against the same Huskies at Conte Forum on Sunday.  This will probably have to be a 4-point weekend for the Eagles as UNH’s schedule continues to be very manageable from their perspective, but Northeastern is playing well.  It’s not hard to see BC winning both, but if they do, it probably won’t be easy.

On to baseball (7:30pm ET).  The 2010 BC baseball season is upon us, and if you’ve read the season preview, then you know what we’re up against this year.  Tomorrow night they open up a three-game set against the Tulane Green Wave down in Nawlins.  In the preseason USA Today poll, BC got five votes and obviously was not ranked, but at least they’re on somebody’s radar.  BC was also picked third in their division earlier this year by the ACC coaches, which is high praise since they’ve never been selected that highly.  We also have a second-team All-American in Mickey Wiswall leading our men.

Yes, BC lost guys like Tony Sanchez and Mike Belfiore, but let’s not pretend this team doesn’t still have talent.  (I realize that I sound just like I did when I was previewing the basketball season — yes, we lost Tyrese Rice, but these guys will be fine — yeah, right)  I hope this BC team decides to validate my faith in them.
