BC hockey goes to Lowell

I haven’t forgotten about my readers, and to prove it to you, I’ll talk about BC hockey going to play UMass-Lowell tonight.  First, before I get to that, congrats to the women’s hoops team for beating another ranked team last night at UNC.  They’re staying alive in the ACC and I hope they keep it going so at least one of our basketball teams will be worth a damn this year.

Now then, our hockey team may play where it’s cold, but they’re on some hot streak.  They’ve won 4 in a row and just locked up a Beanpot title earlier this week, but they’re returning to the scene of their most recent loss on January 23rd.

The Riverhawks are a middle-of-the-pack Hockey East team, while BC still hangs three points behind New Hampshire for the lead.  They’ll be playing a home-and-home with UML with Friday in Lowell, Saturday in Chestnut Hill, and a weekend sweep would mean 4 huge points.  In fact, this is a very doable stretch for BC hockey, having UML and Northeastern twice, followed by Merrimack, and then UMass at home (the same team they obliterated last week).  They have a chance to really rack up some points going into the last two games against New Hampshire, which may determine the Hockey East’s one seed.

The next few games will be very key for BC in terms of keeping their recent momentum going and furthermore putting themselves in a position to win the conference.  Their upcoming schedule is favorable for doing that, so losing would clearly be wasting opportunities.

You can’t talk about BC hockey right now though without talking about their prolific scoring.  In this four-game win streak, they’re averaging 5.5 goals per game.  Chris Kreider, a man whose goal on Monday night gave stiffies to many Rangers fans who have hopes for their future, now has 5 goals in the last 5 games.  He’s just one of the players on this team who are playing exceptionally well right now.  BC is playing at a very high level at the moment, and if they keep this up, they will do damage in the big tournament.  First thing’s first, however, and that means taking care of Lowell.
