Beanpot semifinals: Harvard vs. Boston College
By Joe Micik
It’s been a terrible January for BC sports (more on that later), but the Eagles can start February off right with a win in the 58th Annual Beanpot. This time, they have drawn Harvard in their first game. ESPN recently published a soft news piece about the Crimson, but they can have the cheery articles on brotherly love, and we’ll take the wins.
Harvard is 5-11-3 while #15 BC is 13-8-2. In their only other matchup this season, BC beat Harvard in Cambridge 3-2. You may also remember that for BC’s last Beanpot title in 2008, this is the same team they beat in overtime (in fact, both games were in overtime. I remember that because I had to engineer in the WZBC studios for 4 hours both nights).
BC is the best team in the field, and not just because they’re the only ones ranked: BC’s the only team in the field with a winning record.
BC 13-8-2
BU 7-9-2
NE 7-10-1
HAR 5-11-3
I think it’s pretty safe to assume that the Eagles are the favorites, but that doesn’t mean a thing if you don’t win.
We’re in the first slot at 5pm on NESN tomorrow night. Recall that BC hockey has lost every single game that I’ve watched live on TV this year. I may have to keep the TV off and follow online. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to have BC win.
