GT @ BC — no liveblog, but some thoughts
By Joe Micik
Where I am right now, I won’t be able to see the game. If I were at home I’d be able to pick up on ESPN360, but I can’t even do that. In case you were wondering, this is the situation for both teams:
* The Boston College Eagles are 20-10, 8-7, and are in decent position to take an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament. They will be either a 5 or a 6 seed in the ACC Tournament. BC, despite being on the bubble, have far outperformed expectations this season (where they were picked 2nd to last in this tough conference). They must win Tyrese’s final home game if they want to be absolutely sure that they’ll be safe on Selection Sunday (a week from tomorrow). A loss would be bad, but a berth could be saved only with a good ACC Tournament.
* The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are done like dinner, and are playing for absolutely nothing but to be a spoiler. They are locked in as the dead-last (12th) seed in the ACC Tournament.
* BC could be playing this team again on Thursday if they lock in the 5 seed. The Eagles won the first matchup in Atlanta in OT, although arguably the game should never have gone that far because BC far outplayed them for most of the game but let a big lead slip away late.
There would be absolutely no excuses for a BC loss here. Despite the fact that NC State stinks, you could kinda see that loss coming on the road on Senior Night. This is a home game for a team trying to seal up a tournament bid on Tyrese Rice’s Senior Day. I shall repeat, there are absolutely no excuses for a BC loss.
