3/7 wrap, 3/8 preview

* One week from Selection Sunday, and some teams have less to worry about than others. 4 teams have already officially punched their tickets to the dance, and Sunday will make 5. The MVC will crown its champion between Northern Iowa and Illinois State. A few other tournaments will resume: America East, CAA, MAAC, NEC, Patriot League, Southern, Summit, Sun Belt, and WCC.

* Creighton lost (as in, got absolutely decimated) in the MVC Semifinals, so how does this affect their resume? This is what it looks like:
Creighton (26-7, 14-4)
RPI (before loss): 38
SOS (before loss): 110
Key wins: Dayton, Northern Iowa, New Mexico, Illinois State
Key losses: Wichita State, Drake, Illinois State (2x)

I’m reminded of the little old lady from the Wendy’s commercials who said “where’s the beef?” There’s not a lot of meat in their resume — no truly horrendous losses but not many great wins, either. They are going to be sweating it out next week, because if they’re in, they’re just barely in.

* Duke and UNC go tomorrow. I don’t particularly want either one to win, but I guess I’ll pull for UNC because I don’t want Duke winning or sharing the ACC title.
