The day in review

* First A-Rod had just a cyst, then it was a cyst and a torn labrum, then he was having surgery, then he wasn’t, and now nobody knows. As if A-Rod didn’t have enough problems, aside from the obvious issues with steroids and dating a woman assumed to be 90 years his senior, now there’s this. It’s always a media circus with this guy.

* Nice last-second win for the Nittany Lions. They got screwed out of a few points by the refs so they should have beaten Illinois anyway, but just think: if it weren’t for a few bad calls, there’d have never been that thrilling ending!

* The Big South will be 1 vs 2 in the Saturday finals: Radford vs VMI for the autobid. Until today’s Liberty/VMI game, I didn’t even realize that Stephen Curry had a younger brother, let alone the fact that he also plays D1 basketball.

* This year, the MVC Tournament hates the Drake as they lose to Indiana State. Wichita State also moves on to the Friday quarterfinals.

* All top seeds in the Northeast Conference except one (5 beats the 4) move on, and all top seeds advance in the Atlantic Sun. March Madness has not been very mad so far as we’re not seeing any really big upsets. In 3 days of conference tournaments, the biggest we’ve seen so far is the 6 beating the 3 in the Patriot League quarters.

* Providence ended up getting creamed by Nova in their regular season finale; the Big East Tournament means even more for them now. Despite having some really nice wins, they can’t afford to go one-and-done.
