More from Basketball

With the win, the Eagles are back over .500 at 4-3, now having won consecutive games. Providence was dealt just their second loss of the season; the Friars beat the Eagles in overtime last year and were slightly favored in this contest.

Boston College had a “white out” tonight in the stands, and the good vibes seem to have paid off for the Eagles as they gathered their biggest win of the young season.

Boston College-Providence Final: Game Synopsis

The two teams were neck and neck for virtually all of the first half, neither one getting too far ahead or behind. Boston College thought they might take a three-point lead into the half, but Carson Desrosiers hit a three with five seconds left to tie the game; it was 34-34 at the half.

Four minutes into the second, the game remained tied at 40-40, but a 7-0 Eagle run capped by an Olivier Hanlan three pushed Boston College out to their biggest lead of the game. Though the lead would increase for another few moments, Providence cut it to three with just under 9 minutes to go.

At the five-minute mark, it was a four-point game. The Eagles, who let Providence get close but never get it tied again, had one more run in them featuring Hanlan and Aaron Brown, who put the game out of reach in the closing minutes with some hot shooting.

Boston College-Providence Final: The Stats

Boston College-Providence Final: Bottom Line

Boston College now has their second win of note this season, with this one coming in the continental United States in their own building. The Eagles and their fans have to feel good about what the team was able to do.

It is still far too premature to take this victory for anything more than what it is, which is to say a Boston College team finally doing a little more winning and having fun again. The last few seasons were torture for the fans, and one can imagine even worse for the players whose names were all over them. The men deserved their win tonight, and have deserved a fate other than losing for a while now.

BC is back to trying to find ways to win, which is a welcome change.
