Boston College Fires Men’s Basketball Coach Steve Donahue

Today, Boston College announced the inevitable and fired Men’s Basketball Head Coach Steve Donahue.
In four years as Boston College’s Head Coach, Donahue compiled a record of 54 wins and 76 losses, which obviously wasn’t enough for Athletic Director Brad Bates to keep him under contract.
This past season began with high hopes coming off a 2012-2013 campaign where the young Eagles were 16-17. All of the starters and main players had returned, along with the additions of Garland Owens and Alex Dragicevich.
However early losses to UMass and Providence and a seemingly tough non-conference schedule sunk the Eagles, especially with the loss of center Dennis Clifford. The team finished with a record of 8-24 (4-14 ACC).
Donahue never made the NCAA Tournament, only making the NIT Tournament in his first year with the players he inherited from previous Boston College coach Al Skinner.
Early reports on March 14th from Sports Illustrated’s Pete Thamel pointed to the Eagles holding onto Donahue, but with the fan uprising on social media, Jeff Goodman reported today that Brad Bates made the decision to let Donahue go.
