2014 Hockey East Tournament: Boston College to Face Notre Dame
By Joe Micik
The Hockey East Tournament results on Saturday night yielded no upsets, which means the #2 Boston College Eagles, top seed in the conference, will face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the quarterfinals next weekend.
In the two single-elimination games on Saturday, (8) Notre Dame defeated (9) Boston University, 3-2, while (6) Maine shut out (11) Merrimack, 2-0. The Black Bears will play (3) Providence while the (7) Vermont Catamounts, winners on Friday over (10) UMass, will face (2) UMass-Lowell.
Notably, Notre Dame was the last team the Eagles faced during the regular season, and were also the first team to have beaten Boston College since late November. The Irish had a great deal of success slowing down the nation’s top offense in their last meeting, winning in overtime and breaking the Eagles’ unbeaten streak of 19 games in the process.
Boston College has won 18 quarterfinals games in a row, meaning nine consecutive sweeps in nine years. The last time the Eagles failed to advance out of the quarterfinal round was 2004, when they lost in an upset in three games to Boston University.
