The #7 Boston College Eagles women’s hockey team are the Hockey East regular season champions for the first time in program history, just one day after the men’s team clinched their own conference title.

The Eagles accomplished this feat thanks to a 4-1 victory over the Maine Black Bears in Orono, Maine on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, Boston College improves to 23-5-3 (16-2-1) on the season, with 33 points being non-surpassable by any other conference opponent. Boston University was also locked into the 2-seed in the upcoming Hockey East Tournament in Hyannis as a result of today’s game.

Boston College’s top performer on Sunday afternoon was Haley Skarupa, the sophomore forward who notched a hat trick during the game. Danielle Doherty scored Boston College’s only other goal in a contest that was scoreless until the third period.

Congratulations to the women’s hockey team, who have gotten in on the “Trophy Season” action themselves. Combined with what their male counterparts are doing, this could be a very special season of hockey at Boston College.

The ladies return to the ice on Saturday against Boston University.
