As National Signing Day approaches, Boston College’s 2014 recruiting class was bolstered by the commitment of three star safety Tre Tarpley from Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh. Tarpley is the 29th commitment to Head Coach Steve Addazio’s first full recruiting class.

Tarpley measures in at 6’1 190 lb, which is a decent size for a safety. Of course, Tarpley will probably have to bulk up a bit. When all is said and done, this is a big commitment for a Boston College secondary that desperately needs help without even mentioning Al Louis-Jean’s decision to leave for the NFL Draft.

Tarpley has had to wait for BCS offer until January 20th when Boston College came knocking on his door. According to Eagle Action, Tarpley was visiting when committed. Vanderbilt followed Boston College’s lead extending an offer to the safety on January 23rd.

No high school stats are available at this time to us but according to Tarpley’s Hudl page, the free safety can run a 4.56s 40 yard dash and jump a 33” vertical. Don’t know what it means(Do you even lift bro?) but Tarpley benches 285 lbs and squats 365.

Tarpley joins Kamrin Moore, Allen Dawson and possibly Cameron Seward, Troy Flutie and Thadd Smith as the new members of the Boston College Eagles’ defensive backfield.
