News came out late yesterday evening that 1st year head football coach Steve Addazio picked up the 23rd commitment of the 2014 class in defensive back Allen Dawson. This is Boston College’s first commitment since the August 22nd commit of Sherman Alston.

Not very much is known about Allen Dawson at this time. 247 Sports has him listed as a safety. Dawson was originally in the 2013 class, going to Pine Crest High School in Florida, but shipped up to the Cheshire Academy in Connecticut for a postgraduate year, which eventually got him this offer from the Eagles. 247 did a short interview with Dawson where he basically said that the final straw in him selecting Boston College was an unofficial visit he had on November 2nd to campus. He is going to take an official in December, but nothing will change his opinion about the school.

On Boston College, “It was definitely the great balance of academics and athletics, as well as the religious piece…There is no place like it and being part of a family community is something that I also wanted in a school.”

I’m glad the Jesuits finally got some credit around here. Now back to yelling about condoms!

Again on the lack of info on Dawson prior to a couple of hours ago, there is a Rivals account on the player which lists him as Class of 2013 and getting interest from BC and UConn. Obviously that point is moot, as 247 tells us that Allen was also recruited by Penn State, Maryland and others. No word on whether Boston College is the only offer he received.

Getting another defensive back for the 2014 class was quite clutch for Boston College considering their only other DB commit is Kamrin Moore (we all know Troy Flutie is going to bring back his uncle’s legacy). Addazio seems to be just tying up loose ends at the moment.

The measures on Dawson are solid: 6’0, 193 lbs. Probably needs to bulk up just a tiny bit. According to his Hudl page, he runs a 4.5 40 and has a 39’’ vertical. The vertical results are really impressive. I can’t obviously confirm that considering that result would be tops at an NFL Combine, but I’ll put my faith in it for the time being. Considering Dawson also played wide receiver in high school those hops must’ve given him quite the edge.

This commitment was first reported by Allen Dawson himself in this tweet:

Prior to his twitter commitment, Dawson had been talking about Boston College a ton on the social media platform. If you had known about him prior to yesterday, you’d think he was already committed to the school.

From all of those videos, it looks like we are getting a very solid recruit in Allen Dawson. Let’s welcome him to the Heights by following him on Twitter and not attempting to contact him because that’s probably a recruiting violation. Anyways, we love that your here Allen and we hope you have a great 4-5 years at Chestnut Hill! #WeAreBC #BeADude
