4. Will the shaky BC win over Villanova translate into worse things against Wake Forest?

Not necessarily. To some extent, each game exists in a vacuum and there is no way to directly draw a line from performance in one game to performance in the next. In other words, the attitude that “BC looked shaky against Villanova, therefore they will look worse against Wake Forest because Wake is better” is a logical fallacy.

How Boston College will play in the Wake Forest game on Friday is not related to how they played against Villanova because Villanova is not on the field. The team has studied new material on film and different variables are in place, amongst other things. It isn’t accurate to suggest that, solely based on BC’s performance on Saturday, their play will get proportionately worse if the opponents are better. That’s not how sports work.

For example, last year’s Maryland Terrapins beat William & Mary by one point at home in a brutally ugly Week 1 win. By that logic, they should have then lost to Temple on the road the following week when stepping up to FBS. The Terps played much better won by two scores.

The point is, treat this game like a new, separate entity, and one which is winnable.
