Boston College Football Countdown: 5 Days to Go

facebooktwitterreddit

You can now count the days until BC football with one hand. Pretty nifty.

Who Wears 5 Now

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

Al Louis-Jean, DB, sophomore

Louis-Jean is entering his third year with the program, but his second year of eligibility. A local product, he played in 2011 as a true freshman but missed the entire 2012 season with a foot injury. Now he’s back and the secondary can use the help. “ALJ” came to Boston College as a four-star recruit who ditched Miami for the Heights, and he’s on the two-deep at left corner.

Notables Who Wore 5

Grant Adams, WR, 2001-04. Leading BC receiver in 2004; caught a pass 30 games in a row.
Joe Kamara, CB, 1991-93. In this Heights throwback.
Al Weston, QB, 1925-28. BC Varsity Club Hall of Famer; All-American.

It’s Something, At Least

Boston College had one fumble recovery return last year, for five yards, by Mehdi Abdesmad.

A Riveting Contest (/sarc)

Northwestern kicked five field goals against the Eagles last year in their meeting. Those were hardly the only five in the game.

Records

Montel Harris owns the Boston College record with five touchdown runs and total touchdowns scored in a single game, single-handedly owning NC State in 2009.

Not A Record, But Good

Matt Ryan (2007) and Ken Smith (1977) are tied for second in program history with five touchdown passes in a single game.

Oops

Of course, three BC quarterbacks have thrown five picks in the same game: Ken Smith (1977, balancing out his 5 TDs), John McKinnon (1950), and Glenn Foley (1990 and 1991).

More Picks

Boston College has picked off the opposing team five times in a single game on 12 separate occasions in program history.

Distinction of Rank

Boston College finished the season ranked #5 in the 1940 AP and the 1984 AP, their highest-ever final rankings in the AP Poll.
