The College Basketball Recruiting Period just ended and now it is the so called “quiet period” until September 9th. News will die down a little bit but not much. Still plenty happening and coaches are still in hot pursuit of these young prospects. Weekly I will try to provide a roundup covering who BC has offered, who they are interested in, and who may be visiting.

2014 PF Justin Johnson (KY) will announce his top 5 August 20th

Other Offers: Boston College, Western Kentucky, Stanford, Providence, Miami (OH), Bowling Green, Murray State, Southern Miss, Eastern Kentucky, Ohio, Winthrop, Belmont, and more mid majors

Outlook: Johnson at one point named Boston College and Western Kentucky his leaders. I would be shocked if BC wasn’t in his top 5 unless BC has really cooled off on recruiting him. He is athletic and can score down low but is really commended for his high energy play and work ethic around the glass. Not a typical Power Forward but Donahue believes he would fit nicely in his system.

2014 C/PF David Wacker (TX) received an offer from Boston College

Other Offers: Texas Tech, Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico, SMU, Fresno State, Rice, Boise State and more midmajors

Outlook: Boston College is in dire need of a big man and Wacker would be someone who could come in and fill that role. There is little information or video on him so I am unsure of what his strengths and weaknesses are.

2014 C Matt Cimino (ME) had great things to say of BC

Other Offers: Virginia, Kansas State

"Cimino said of Boston College: Definitely a program that’s on the rise. Great coach in Coach (Steve) Donahue. Great group of young players. Definitely a school that’s been there recruiting me for a while."

Outlook: Cimino is a top local prospect who is highly regarded by some and questioned by others. He seems to be very high on BC and BC is targeting him as one of their big men for the future. He can shoot well and run the floor well but is not a typical big man in the paint. Boston College may be the favorite for Cimino at this point.

2015 SG Matt Ryan (NY) will take an unofficial visit to Boston College (October 5th)

Twitter: @15ryanm

Other Offers: Boston College, Providence, Notre Dame, West Virginia, Arizona State, Clemson, Iowa State
Outlook: Matt Ryan should be a top prospect when 2015 rolls around. He can shoot lights out and BC is lucky to have an early jump on him but can’t get lost in the shuffle. Clearly they’ve made an impression on him if he is going to take a visit. Expect BC to keep in constant contact with Matt Ryan and for the offers to keep rolling in. He would be a perfect player in Donahue’s system. He will also visit Syracuse and Notre Dame before he visits Boston College.

OTHER NEWS:

  • 2015 5’8″ PG AJ Harris (OH) has committed to Ohio State. He is a nice talent but a bit undersized. He jumped on the local offer from Ohio State as soon as he got it and BC shouldn’t consider this a big loss.
  • BC is showing heavy interest in PG Paris Austin (CA). He has offers from Utah State, San Jose State, and Boise State (@HumbleGuy_Paris)
  • 2014 7’2″ C Paschal Chukwu was going to visit Boston College on Sunday August 18th but that visit was cancelled for some reason. It would be an accomplishment to get Chukwu to visit The Heights but he heavily favors Providence.
