Boston College Football Countdown: 31 Days to Go

BC Football: 31 Days to Go

We’re exactly one month from Boston College Eagles football in 2013. Is that a bit of light we see on the horizon?

Who Wears 31 Now

Nobody

Is It Retired?

No. Only 22 (Doug Flutie) and 68 (Mike Ruth) are.

Notables Who Wore 31

Duke St. Pierre, FB, 1986-88. Cousin of Brian.

Consistency

Last year, the Eagles scored 31 points in consecutive weeks: against Clemson and against Army. Granted, they gave up more than that, but at least they put up a few behind Rettig and company.

Scoring

Boston College scored on 31 red zone possessions last season, which was actually an increase of eight from 2011.

Catching

Tahj Kimble typically ran the ball in the three games he played, but he did make a few receptions as well. His longest catch of 2012 was a 31-yarder against Miami in Week 1.

Run Defense

I know, it was against Maine, but even though Maine rushed against the Eagles 31 times last season, they only managed 69 yards. We’ll take it.

Run, Defense?

Army and Georgia Tech, two triple-option teams, both had 31 first downs against the Eagles in 2012.

Bowling

Boston College scored 31 points against Virginia in their 1994 Carquest Bowl victory.

Bowling II

Boston College again scored 31 points in a bowl game, this time in their win over Arizona State in the 2000 Jeep Aloha Bowl.

Auld Lang Syne

The Eagles have played in three bowls on the 31st of December.
