The excitement, it builds. Boston College football is now just 34 days away.

Who Wears 34 Now

Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY SportsSean Duggan, LB, junior

Here’s another St. X guy for you; they sure know how to make linebackers over there, and we would know because we’ve got a few. Duggan’s 2011 and 2012 seasons have been statistically even in terms of tackles: 39 in each, though he played in two fewer games as a true freshman and had what is to date his only career interception. At the end of last season, he was listed as the backup to Kevin Pierre-Louis at the weak-side linebacker spot, and now he’s listed as backing up Steele Divitto at middle linebacker. Duggan could be a starter in his upperclassman years, but not quite yet.

Notables Who Wore 34

Mike McLaughlin, LB, 2006-09. 2008 and 2009 team captain
John Mihalik, FB, 1983-85. Father of current Eagle Brian Mihalik.
Mike Sanders, TB, 1987-90. Finished with 1,651 total rushing yards.
Andre Williams, RB, 2010-pres. Switched to #44.

Ah, Points

34 points was Boston College’s high-water mark in a single game last season, scoring them against Maine. (That’s also how many Army scored in October, but we don’t need to get into that.)

Speaking of Army

The most first downs for BC ever in a single game was 34 against Army in 2007. Yours truly was in the WZBC booth for that one. I must be good luck.

Uh Oh, First Downs

Northwestern had 34 first downs against BC last season. They should have sent me along for luck.

Ah, Touchdowns

Keith Barnette is the Boston College all-time rushing touchdown leader with 34.

Ah, Yardage

Tight end CJ Parsons had a total of 34 receiving yards for the 2012 season. So did the aforementioned Andre Williams.

Symmetry

Last season, both Boston College and Miami had 34 rushing attempts in the game. Of course, Miami had 208 yards and BC had 96.

Ah, Personal Achievement

Ed Petela holds the program record for most points scored in a single game; in 1949 against Holy Cross, he was responsible for 34 points.
