This is a special day on the Boston College Eagles football countdown. There are 40 days to go, and 40 is a number with recent significant cache in this program.

It was, of course, worn by Luke Kuechly, whom Boston College hails as its most decorated defensive football player ever.

Today’s article will be all about that particular #40.

#40: Boston College Career

Luke Kuechly appeared in 38 games over his three years at Boston College and totaled 532 tackles, a school record. He had ten or more tackles in 34 of those contests. He is second in program history in tackles for a loss with 44. Kuechly also boasted seven interceptions and two touchdowns, including one in his last-ever game as an Eagle against Miami in 2011.

Kuechly was also the ACC Defensive Player of the Year in 2011.

#40: Post-Boston College

Luke Kuechly is currently approaching his second season as a linebacker for the Carolina Panthers. In his first, he was named NFL defensive rookie of the year after leading the pros with 164 tackles.
