Boston College Football Countdown: 67 Days to Go

You might be able to say now that the Boston College Eagles Football Countdown is one-third over. Summer is starting to go quickly as we knock down these days one by one, which I suppose is both a good thing and a bad thing.

Who Wears 67 Now

NCAA Football: Notre Dame at Boston College

Mark L. Baer-USA TODAY Sports

Seth Betancourt, RG, junior

Betancourt is an interior offensive lineman from Riverside, NJ who will be entering his junior year at Boston College. In his first two seasons, he got into a total of twelve games, starting the last three of 2012. His first career start came in the pictured game against Notre Dame.

He’s got the right size at 6-6/304, but as with everyone on the offensive line, more will need to come from Betancourt as the Eagles look to raise their collective game in 2013 and beyond.

Notables Who Wore 67

Tom Meehan, G, 1955-57. Nicknamed “Tank;” BC Varsity Club HOF in 2011.
Mark Murphy, DT, 1986-88. 1988 team captain.
Ron Stone, DT/RT, 1990-92. Played 13 seasons in NFL.

Obligatory Flutie Reference

Doug Flutie threw 67 touchdown passes in his Boston College career, which currently ranks second on the program list.

Obligatory Matty Ice Reference

Matt Ryan holds the record for most offensive plays in a single game: 67 against Wake Forest during the 2006 season.

Random Fact

Eagles receiver Ray Hilvert (1987-90) had 67 career receptions. That’s nowhere near the top of the list but it’s the right number for today’s theme.

Random Fact #2

Kenyatta Watson (1993-96) had 67 kickoff returns in his Boston College football career; that’s fourth all-time on the team list — he’s also fourth on the yardage list with 1,436.

(NFL) Drafted in ’67

• Bob Hyland (Green Bay Packers; 1st round)
• Bill Stetz (New Orleans Saints; 13th round)
