After a loss to UMass Lowell on that impromptu Tuesday matchup, the Boston College Eagles were smelling blood in the water when they went over to Providence for a little bit of hockey action.

The first period was scoreless but the captain Pat Mullane opened up scoring on a power play with only 2:30 in. He was assisted by Johnny Gaudreau and Michael Matheson.

A minute, 18 seconds later, the defenseman Matheson got another point with a score past Providence goalie Jon Gillies who was 31/34 on save opportunities.

But, certainly the fun couldn’t end on this power play marathon as Providence winger Ross Mauermann put in a short handed goal beyond the glove of Parker Milner(22/24) just 41 seconds later. Add a goal from Steve Whitney later int he second period, who was aided by Matheson’s 3rd point and Johnny Hockey’s 2nd, and you have a 3-1 lead at the end of two.

Providence’s Nick Saracino pushed in the last goal of the game with 3:54 past in the third period. But Parker Milner was able able to weather the storm for the rest of the game, as BC outshot Providence 34 to 26, ending the contest by a score of 3 to 2.

It was a good victory for BC who needed it to move to a record of 19-9-3(14-8-2HE) which is tied with UMass Lowell for tops in the Hockey East, points wise with 30.

The Boston College Eagles will play next later today at 4 PM at Conte Forum to complete the home and home with the Providence Friars. We hope to see you there cheering on those Eagles!!!
