CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein is reporting that Boston College starting point guard Jordan Daniels, a sophomore from California, has left the Eagles’ basketball program. No reason has been given, nor is one necessarily expected.

In his only season at Boston College, the 5-8 guard appeared in all 31 games, starting in 25. He averaged 6.4 points per game as well as 1.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. His signature moment was against a ranked Florida State team, scoring 21 points in BC’s upset win at Conte Forum.

This is legitimately surprising news, as the season is just four days away from its opening tipoff. Speculation will do us no good, but since he has in fact left, chances are that freshman Olivier Hanlan may now be a starter.

We wish Daniels the best in his future.
