101 Days of BC Football: Steele Divitto, #49

With or without Luke Kuechly, Boston College has a fine stable of talented linebackers. The next one to get his moment on the 101 Days is Steele Divitto. This junior from Connecticut played for Don Bosco in New Jersey and has been the starter at the strong-side linebacker position.

Divitto began his BC career as a true freshman in 2010: he appeared in 11 of the Eagles’ 13 games and gained 20 tackles, combining on a tackle for a loss, and recovering two fumbles. In his sophomore season of 2011, Divitto made a much bigger impact on the team. Appearing in all 12 games, he came in third on the defense with 72 tackles, had 3.5 tackles for a loss, sacked the quarterback twice, broke up five passes and picked off Kellen Pagel of UMass for his first career interception.

Praise has begun to find Divitto for his play on the field and his work ethic off the field. Phil Steele named Divitto to his All-ACC Preseason Fourth Team, and in February, the national media pointed out that Divitto trained extra over the winter in the offseason.

In 2012, Divitto is slated to remain the starter at the Sam linebacker spot, staying ahead of fellow junior Andre Lawrence. When you see the body of work he’s put together so far, it’s not hard to imagine why. Divitto is a hard-working player who has demonstrated plenty of ability to get to the football. Without Kuechly absorbing all the tackles, Divitto has a decent chance to increase upon his total from last season and make an even bigger mark on this Boston College defense.
