Boston College 14, NC State 10: Eagles Win on Senior Day

Because it was such a boring, unwatchable game, I have no desire to churn up stats and give you a full recap.

I’ll start by saying that yes, the Eagles won, and I did kind of have a feeling they would, but let’s be honest here, it wasn’t a good game, and overall BC didn’t play well. BC scores 14 points in the first half, zero in the second, and actually had NEGATIVE yardage for the fourth quarter. The Eagles’ second-half disappearing act continues. This team has no desire (or knowledge on how) to adjust, and against a better team, it would have made a difference.

The players of the game absolutely were the defense.

If they had an off day, we lose this game by a good-sized margin and I don’t even think that’s up for debate. They were the ones stepping up and making plays while the offense flopped and flailed in the autumn breeze. Luke Kuechly keeps up his 10-tackles-a-game streak and recorded 18 tackles, which brings him up to 168 for the season. For his career, he now has 509 tackles; the BC record is 524. Not only will Kuechly break the school record held by Stephen Boyd this season, he may break it next week at Notre Dame. It’s amazing to consider that he’ll snap the record of a four-year player in three seasons.

Spaz and his assistants coached a terrible game, complete with gutless, ultra-conservative playcalling and a lack of adjustments, but we were fortunate enough that TOB and Dana Bible were on the other sideline screwing things up even worse. (I would like to take this opportunity to call out the ACC Network for what I think was a disgustingly-bad broadcast today; they could not have made any more excuses for BC’s poor season and Spaz personally if they tried.) If we see Spaz back next year, support your team by all means, but don’t expect anything to change. It may be games like this that we get excited about winning when we’re already way under .500. It was an ugly win, but I guess an ugly win beats an ugly loss.

The seniors at least have the ability to go out as winners, which they deserve. They remember when BC used to win and look good doing it, and have done well in their time here. This victory belongs to them and their teammates.
